Wrexham is set to return to Las Vegas for a second celebration after securing their second consecutive promotion, as confirmed by one of their players. Phil Parkinson’s team will compete in the English football third tier next season, having finished second in League One, four points behind champions Stockport, whom they defeated 2-1 in their final game of the season. This achievement comes just a year after their historic return to the English Football League, winning the National League title after a 15-year absence.
The team celebrated that first title win with an epic four-day trip to Las Vegas, generously funded by Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The co-owners ensured the players had a memorable experience by sparing no expense. Given their latest success, the team is gearing up for another Vegas celebration, promising yet another unforgettable adventure for the Red Dragons.
The likes of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer soaked up the sun as the drinks flowed at an all-day pool party, while there were luxurious meals out at top restaurants. One dinner even featured a bespoke congratulations glass sculpture in the shape of Wrexham’s club crest.
Wrexham’s players were left in awe after co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney agreed to cover the costs for their Las Vegas celebration, turning the experience into something truly surreal. The squad didn’t hold back, with former Manchester United and England goalkeeper Ben Foster estimating the entire trip cost “at least half a million dollars.”
Once the team secured promotion to League One, Elliot Lee hinted at a return to Sin City, asking their co-owners to “fire up the jet.” Captain Ben Tozer took it a step further, challenging Reynolds and McElhenney to “try and top last year.” Rob McElhenney also suggested that another trip might be in the works, but it wasn’t until after Wrexham’s 2-1 win over Stockport that striker Andy Cannon confirmed the plans.
“We’re going to Vegas again,” Cannon said after scoring Wrexham’s last-minute winner. He added that while he would enjoy the trip, he didn’t necessarily want the season to end just yet, as he had been enjoying his recent run of form and goal-scoring opportunities. However, he acknowledged that the rest of the team could use a well-deserved break. Despite his personal sentiments, the upcoming trip is bound to be another unforgettable adventure for Wrexham, as they return to Las Vegas to celebrate their latest success.
One player who will be relishing the return to Vegas is 21-year-old defender Max Cleworth, who was part of the travelling party last summer but didn’t get the full experience due to being below the United States’ legal drinking age. Looking ahead to the “unbelievable” experience, he said: ““Hopefully I’ll just enjoy it a bit more than I did last year.
I’ll be allowed in a few more places! I’ll enjoy it more but also to be treated to something like that by the owners is unbelievable and to do it with the group of lads we’ve got is really special.”
With a huge following Stateside due to the success of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, Wrexham’s players will be returning to North America later this summer as part of their pre-season tour. Having faced the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea last year, they will now undertake a tour of the West Coast of the USA and Canada in July.
The Red Dragons will again take on Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues in between clashes with Bournemouth and Vancouver Whitecaps, in what Reynolds and McElhenney have billed as the ‘Wrex Coast Tour’.
